QPR TRAINING: WHAT IS IT AND WHO CAN BENEFIT?

YOU MATTER

What is QPR?

QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) is a mental health emergency intervention method created by Dr. Paul Quinnett in 1955. Just as people are trained in CPR to treat a cardiac emergency, those who are trained in QPR learn how to identify an individual in a mental health crisis, and the steps to safely Question, Persuade, and Refer them to get the help they need.

Who should be trained?

The short answer: EVERYONE! This training will benefit anyone who is willing to learn and support those in a mental health crisis. This could include medical staff, doctors, first responders (EMT, Fire, Police), receptionists, school administrators, principals, teachers, parents, teenagers, attorneys, city and county leaders, commissioners, state leaders, and even the President and Presidential staff. This training is designed to give every single person in the world the ability to intervene and refer someone in a mental health emergency. Because suicides often happen in families, the QPR Institute recommends that at least 1 person per family should be trained in QPR. At least 1 million Americans have been trained so far. Will YOU hear the call and obtain this life-saving training? Please see the video to the right of this information for a better view of who and why you should be trained!
